👨👩👧 Parent Coaching Tips
Teach safety without fear: short drills, roleplay, and confidence language.
Goal: calm repetition → automatic actions under stress → early telling.
Core Principles (The Method)
Short + repeatable
- 5–10 minutes weekly beats long lectures.
- Same phrases, same rules, repeated calmly.
- Practice “what to DO” more than “what could happen”.
Confidence language
- “You are allowed to say no.”
- “Safety beats politeness.”
- “You won’t be in trouble for telling me.”
Avoid fear/shame
- No scary threats.
- No blame for mistakes.
- Not “stranger danger only” — risk can be known people too.
🧠 If your child freezes, it doesn’t mean “they failed”
Freezing is a normal stress response. The solution is calm repetition and simple scripts. Praise effort (“You used your voice”), not outcome (“You beat them”).
Age Layers (What to Focus On)
🧒 Ages 4–7
- Stop + run to safe adult
- Holding hands rules in public
- Code word pickups
- Help words: “I need help!”
🧑 Ages 8–12
- Green/Amber/Red awareness
- Boundary phrases (short, firm)
- Online-to-offline red flags
- Run-to planning (shops/staff)
👦 Teens
- Coercion + peer pressure
- Meeting rules (never meet alone)
- Support scripts + reporting
- “If it feels off, leave and tell”

What NOT to teach
- Long explanations (“Because…”)

Under stress, short phrases work best.
Help words (fast attention)
- “I need help!”
- “This is not my parent!” (if appropriate)
- “Staff member!”
- “Call the police!” (if serious danger)
🏃 Run-To Planning (Safer Than “Run Away”)
Build a local plan: safe places + trusted adults + a single script.
