This module is specifically designed for adolescents aged 13–18.
Teenagers present differently to younger children and adults — risk-taking behaviour, sport injuries, substance exposure, violence, and mental health crises are more common in this age group.

Concussion / Head Injury (Sport & Assault)
Common in contact sport, fights, falls. Teens may hide symptoms.
Recognise
- Headache, dizziness, confusion
- Memory gaps, nausea, vomiting
- Drowsiness or behaviour change
Immediate Action
- Stop activity immediately
- Do NOT allow “play on”
- Monitor closely
🟧 Call 999 if repeated vomiting, seizure, worsening confusion, severe headache, collapse.
Overdose / Substance Exposure
Alcohol, prescription misuse, recreational drugs.
Red Flags
- Slow breathing
- Blue lips
- Unresponsive or hard to wake
- Seizure
Immediate Action
- If breathing: recovery position
- If not breathing normally: CPR
- Keep packaging for paramedics
🟥 Call 999 immediately for breathing problems, collapse, or unknown substance.
Self-Harm / Suicidal Crisis
Safety-first approach. Calm, protective response.
If Immediate Risk
- Do not leave alone
- Remove obvious means if safe
- Speak calmly and clearly
Escalation
- Call 999 for serious injury or overdose
- Use urgent same-day crisis support if not immediate
