Attacked from behind

Attacked From Behind

Attacks from behind are among the most dangerous forms of assault. They rely on surprise, loss of balance, and restricted movement. This section focuses on survival, awareness, and escape.

When an attack comes from behind, you often lose vision, reaction time, and control of posture. These attacks escalate quickly and are designed to overwhelm before you can react.

Common rear attacks include:

  • Rear chokes and headlocks
  • Bear hugs or body grabs
  • Being dragged or lifted
  • Thrown or forced to the ground

Survival Priorities

  • Lower your centre of gravity to prevent being lifted or dragged
  • Protect your airway and neck immediately
  • Create an angle or turn to regain vision
  • Escape as soon as an opportunity appears

Common Mistakes in Rear Attacks

  • Freezing due to shock or surprise
  • Standing tall and allowing yourself to be lifted
  • Panicking and flailing without structure
  • Focusing on strikes instead of escape
