Disrupt

Disrupt

Break the attacker’s plan and create opportunity to escape.

⚡ What “Disrupt” Means

Disrupt is the moment where you actively interfere with an attacker’s plan. This does not mean fighting or trading blows.

It means creating confusion, hesitation, or overload so you can regain control long enough to escape.

🧠 Why Disruption Works

Most attackers rely on speed, surprise, and compliance. When the plan breaks, hesitation appears.

  • Hesitation creates opportunity
  • Opportunity creates space
  • Space allows escape

🏃 Movement as Disruption

  • Sudden angle changes instead of backing straight up
  • Stepping off-line to break balance and focus
  • Moving toward exits, light, or people
  • Using obstacles to block or slow pursuit

Movement should be decisive, not frantic.

🗣️ Voice & Noise

Your voice can disrupt attention and draw witnesses.

  • Loud, sharp verbal commands
  • Single words: “STOP”, “BACK”, “NO”
  • Shouting to attract attention
  • Breaking the attacker’s focus

🧍 Positioning & Space

Small changes in position can cause big problems for an attacker.

  • Turning side-on to protect centreline
  • Using objects as barriers
  • Keeping distance where possible
  • Preventing grabs and control

⚠️ Key Principle

Disruption is not winning.
It is buying time — just enough to escape safely.
