EHRC 8-Step Framework – Aware360

📘 EHRC 8-Step Framework

Learn the 8 steps the Equality and Human Rights Commission recommends to prevent workplace harassment.

1️⃣ Leadership and Organisational Culture

Senior leaders must set the tone for a respectful workplace. Clear policies and accountability show commitment to dignity at work.

2️⃣ Developing Effective Policies

Written anti-harassment policies must be accessible and clearly explain what is unacceptable behaviour, procedures for complaints, and consequences.

3️⃣ Reporting Systems

Employers must create multiple, safe ways for workers to report harassment confidentially and without fear of retaliation.

4️⃣ Training and Raising Awareness

Training should be regular, relevant, and practical. Everyone should know their rights, responsibilities, and how to intervene safely.

5️⃣ Tailored Approach for Different Groups

Recognise that some employees may be more at risk (e.g., by gender, ethnicity, disability). Tailor support to meet diverse needs.

6️⃣ Acting on Complaints

Take complaints seriously. Investigate promptly and fairly, keeping victims informed and protected during the process.

7️⃣ Evaluating Actions Taken

Review complaints, training outcomes, and culture surveys to assess if your anti-harassment efforts are working.

8️⃣ Transparency and Monitoring

Be open about what’s working and what needs improvement. Report on harassment data, trends, and next steps to employees.
