Youth, Peer Pressure & Normalisation

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Youth, Peer Pressure & Normalisation

This module explains how pressure really works — not as shouting or threats, but as jokes, dares, filming, embarrassment, and “everyone does it” behaviour. It teaches young people how to break pressure safely without confrontation.

What This Module Is About

Most youth harm does not start with violence. It starts with pressure — social, digital, emotional — that slowly removes choice. This module helps users recognise pressure early and leave safely.

🎯 Core principle: Discomfort is safer than danger.
You do not owe anyone compliance, explanations, or proof.

🔺 Pressure Escalation Ladder

Tap each stage — this is how “banter” turns into harm.

😄 Joke / tease (“Relax, it’s just banter”)
📱 Filming / group attention
🔥 Dare / challenge (“Go on then”)
😬 Social threat (“Don’t be boring”)
⚠️ Isolation / blocking exits
🚨 Coercion / intimidation
If you recognise step 3 or above — exit immediately. Do not wait for step 6.

📵 If Your Phone Is Dead or You’re Offline

  • Go where adults or staff are visible
  • Use shops, stations, reception desks
  • Make noise if blocked or surrounded
  • Leave early — don’t explain

🧠 If Pressure Already Happened

If you froze, went along with it, or didn’t react how you wanted — that is not failure. That is a normal stress response.

✔ You can change your mind later ✔ You can tell a trusted adult at any time ✔ You are not “in trouble” for being pressured

🛡 Safeguarding & Support

This module is education-based and safeguarding-led. If pressure involves threats, filming, substances, or sexualised behaviour, it should be shared with a trusted adult.
